My friend will be glad to know that he did in fact use “wanker” correctly.

In my case, my education of what constituted a “wanker” was largely through watching “The Chaser's War on Everything”.

Spot on Carlon,in Australia and Britain the word wanker is used all the time to describe someone as basically an idiot or jerk.
Not to describe someone as literally masturbating.

Australian sporting crowds are often heard singing “you are a wanker” to people acting stupidly in the crowd or to opposition players.

Carlon, I found myself in court at one point and was asked by the defense attorney what I thought of a former employee. I hesitated for a moment and said in open court, “I thought he was a f*%4ing jerk.” Everyone got a big laugh (except the judge…he was holding back). At times you have to call them the way you see them. It was the right word at the right time.
